Congenital Heart Disease
Congenital heart disease is a more technical term for any heart condition that is present since birth. The term “congenital” comes from two Latin words that mean “from birth”. A simpler term for a congenital heart defect is “a birth defect of the heart”.
Pediatric Cardiology Associates of Central New York offers a wide array of cardiac tests that diagnose heart problems in infants, children, and adolescents. We use state of the art equipment that is specially designed for children.
A fetal echocardiogram is an ultrasound test performed to evaluate the heart of a baby in detail during pregnancy. An obstetrician will request this study when there may be an increased risk of congenital heart disease in the baby.
